Discretion is a Virtue

I have several Twitter accounts follow me @officialviimag and @donnatbroadway and I have a worn out Facebook account but I really feel like social media is the devil. Why? because it's like a drug to people who have no discretion. Although I'm fighting Twitter, I have to tweet because that's the hot thing right now but I don't know how deep I'll get. I used to post alot of Facebook statuses but I realized I needed to stop because people don't care. They don't care if you're depressed or if you just saw your boo. They don't want to hear about your co-worker pissing you off. Or maybe they do, which is another reason why you should be discreet. Twitter is a stalker's wet dream.

You mean I can go on line and find out everything you did in the last 24 hours and you won't even know I know? Yes, that's Twitter. To celebrities, please stop crying when your business gets out there because you put it out there. This is why I admire Beyonce. You will never know if her and Jay-Z have a sex tape or if she takes naked pictures for him because they're under lock and key. She barely acknowledges she has a husband, which works for them. For everyone who wants to be a real celebrity, put down the Twitter please. If you have no impulse control, have someone else tweet for you. Having loose lips is not sexy. I realized that certain food tastes better when I have it less often. Like McDonalds Mccafe or BK double cheese burgers. Having it too much cheapens it. Twitter is like that. So shut up and tweet less often so we'll miss you.

In Memoriam: Chris Brown's Career

What happens when you take America's top teen superstar is who extremely clean cut, add in an R&B star who is getting badder with every album, then multiply a pre-grammy night beating? You have what happened to Chris Brown's career. A little over a year ago, Chris Brown was on top of the world. He was set to perform at the Grammy's award but a little incident ruined his career and now he's an industry joke.

Please don't think I like to call R.I.P on people's careers because I don't but Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj make me want to shake them and slap some sense into them. Why is Diddy managing people and why is Chris Brown still tweeting and storming off of interviews?

In real talk, I feel sorry for Chris Brown although I smell a rat with the leaked sexy photos of Rihanna and the entire beating story . He had the world and lost it in a day, literally. I feel like he needs better handlers. He should have waited for Rihanna to speak out or spent a year in hiding really getting himself together.

Note to Chris Brown not that he knows this magazine exists: please stop whining on Twitter, it's not sexy.

"A lot of radio stations aren't playing my records. They are not being that supportive and I wouldn't expect them to," he said. "It's on the fans and what you guys do in your power to bring me back. That's all I need is you guys and nothing else will do that except for the fans."

"I'm doing everything that I need to do. I'm doing me as a person and I'm a better guy. It's on ya'll. My singing and my music I do it for you guys and everything else but it won't be possible if I'm not relevant on the radio and it wouldn't be possible for me to be an artist if I don't have the support."

"I can't be an underground mixtape artist. That's where we are. I just want all my fans to help me. I love ya'll. Peace,"

Just go away and let us miss you and then maybe we'll love you again. Also, when you are pleading with radio to play your music, don't storm out of interviews. People don't like it and it makes you look bad. Now would be the right time to eat a few humble pies. now that Justin Bieber is here, we don't really need you anymore

Here's the audio of Chris Brown's Q94 interview:

Have you heard: Angel Taylor

Angel Taylor - Love Travels

In my former life, I think I was a woman who loved to go to coffee shops and listen to music or go to jazz clubs and relax. Don't ask how former this is because I was only born in 1986 and American coffee shops are a recent phenomenon. But anyway, I say all this to say I know something you should know and that is: Angel Taylor.

Angel Taylor is a 22 singer-songwriter from southern california who abandoned her teaching dreams to pursue music. Her music is soulful and melodic and nothing you would expect from a 22 year old. I love Angel Taylor. I discovered her music less than a year ago when my friend played her song, "Make Me Believe." I wasn't hooked but on a slow Friday night I did some youtubing, same as googling except for the looking up videos part, and I found some songs. I love her voice. It's raspy but she can still sing and her songs tell a story. I love songs that tell a story. A party anthem or sexual healing song is cool every once in a while but a story in a song is like reading a book; as you listen to the music, in your mind you match the words with actions. I realize that the slow, coffee shop esque music is not for everyone but I suggest you try it sometime.

Lost Interview: Natalie Nunn

Until Mid January 2010, I was an online columnist for the Baltimore Times Newspaper bmoreentertained.blogspot.com but due to financial issues, not that they paid me my column went to the back burner. Before and after the mix up, I interviewed a few celebrities and I will be including those interviews and stories.

In January, I interviewed Bad Girl Natalie Nunn and I asked her about a few things including Rihanna, Chris Brown, her image, and if she's really a gold digger. FYI: I interviewed her a little before the halfway point of the season so I didn't get to the juicier stuff. Enjoy!!

VII Mag: Why did you want to be on this show?

Natalie Nunn: Honestly, I auditioned for it because I knew some of the things would fit my personality and it was like signing up to be in a sorority. I wanted to see if I really had the bad girl in me.

VII Mag: Is the Natalie on Bad Girls Club the real Natalie or a show Natalie?

Natalie:
It was definitely for entertainment. I have a big personality. I can be extremely funny, I can obviously put on a great show, and I have a enough energy to pop off a TV screen. It's not scripted but it's a TV show. Any situation where a camera is in your face, is not going to be realistic. I don't care what anybody says, it's not normal to have a camera in your face 24 hours a day for four months. So, it's entertainment. (Laughter)

VII Mag: Have you spoken to Portia since your fight and what really happened with that situation?

Natalie: When they cast for people for this show, they look for people who are like night and day. When they cast me, they were like "Natalie's a go-getter, she's about her money and she's not afraid to tell the world she's about her money." Then they go out and cast a girl like Portia who struggles to be a single parent a woman who is okay with living a regular lifestyle. She wants to live comfortable and I want to live over the top, going on vacations every week. So we're completely different. Words were exchanges both ways and I feel like I got the blunt end of the stick. People were like "you shouldn't talk about people's daughters" but in my eyes, I was talking about her character. I was saying she was a bad mom and I guess in some people's eyes, I doesn't equal up to her calling me a slut and a whore. In my eyes, I don't have kids and the things she said about me was tarnishing my character, so saying she was a bad mom was tarnishing her character. We just didn't see eye to eye in anything. That was the Portia situation.

VII Mag: Let's talk about Annie for a moment. Why was she on the show and what was her character, and what was your impression of her?

Natalie: (laughing) To be honest, the producers of the show are brilliant. The first episode with me coming in the house and meeting Annie, we're the exact opposite. I'm very strong and constructive personality and Annie's the quiet and humble girl. Us being roommates for four months is brilliant. It's good to have Annie in the house because if we had a bunch of Portia's, Natalie's and Flo's everyone would be going home every week. I respect her character because my character bounces off of Annie and that built me up even more. People think all I do is pick on Annie and they find it hilarious. They like the Annie and Natalie situation.

VII Mag: were the other girls cast around you?

Natalie: I was the first person cast. I didn't know who the other girls would be. I never met them. Some of them found out the week before (the show started) but I knew four months before.

VII Mag: what is your impression of your cast mates now?

Natalie: I only get along with Kendra. It's not because she's a follower and a little Natalie but because in real life she's like the girls I hang out with. When people say, "is this show real?" I'm like, how could it be real? In real life, I don't know these girls and I wouldn't live in a random mansion with these girls. I would never hang out with girls like them outside the mansion and only person I deal with now is Kendra. I'm not fighting with the rest of them but they're not people I know.

VII Mag: what was Olamide's (Natalie's then boyfriend of six years) reaction to the show?

Natalie: he obviously didn't like the idea of the show and he's the most important thing in my life. It was extremely difficult to break up with him on the show. We're still on talking terms but it doesn't mesh well when you're on a reality TV show because of male fans and club appearances. I care about him a lot but it would be extremely bad for my career if we were together.

VII Mag: You were in the news for Chris Brown, what went down with him and do you feel as though you were out of line for speaking about the Rihanna situation? (Natalie was seen on an early episode of the show making controversial remarks about Rihanna)

Natalie: I said that I felt it was inappropriate to say what I said about the situation. The way they cut and edit reality shows there was so much more that was said before that. No one will understand a reality show unless they are on one. It's extremely hard to get on a reality show. No one will understand how the conversation escalated to that. I sent my condolences to Rihanna and her party. It was extremely rude what I said but I don't take it back because it sparked a lot of plugs for me. I don't condone domestic violence from a guy or a guy but I have my reasons to believe why what happened, happened. I've heard a different side of the

R.I.P Nicki Minaj's Career

It pains me to say this not really but that's the politically correct thing to say but we need to have a vigil for Nicki Minaj's career. When I heard about the decisions that Nicki Minaj was making about her career, my heart was instantly saddened. Why fire the person that has fought for you before you had a penny and butt implants for someone that is known for sinking everyone's career except his own? I don't understand it. Maybe Nicki Minaj trusts Diddy's instincts but I have the feeling that when she falls off, this relationship will fall off too. Nicki Minaj and Diddy recently made their public debut hand in hand. More power to her.

Afeni Shakur arrested on $10,000 worth of drug charges

All we can say is, Dannnnng Afeni. $10,000 worth. Really. I know with all the postmortem records and t-shirts bearing Tupac's image, Afeni has money to fold somewhere but to spend it on drug charges. IDK what to think.

(AllHipHop News) Afeni Shakur, mother of world famous rapper Tupac Shakur, will appear in court in May, after she was arrested earlier this month and charged with possession of marijuana.

According to the Fayetteville Observer, Shakur was arrested by state alcohol agents.

Police arrested Shakur on Friday, April 16th and hit with a number of charges, including felony possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance and simple possession of a controlled substance.

Shakur, 63, lives in Lumberton, North Carolina, where she oversees the estate of Tupac Shakur.

Mrs. Shakur was released on $10,000 bond and is due in court in Robeson County District Court on May 10th.

Tupac chronicled his mother's battle with substance abuse on his hit 1995 single "Dear Mama."

Selling Sex -I mean Music

Yesterday as I was driving home from work, I heard one of the raunchiest songs on the radio ever. Yes, it was raunchier than Plies "Becky" which is like a manual for oral sex. I don't know the name of the song but all I know is the first thing they said is "I have my hands in her hair" (safe enough) "She's on her knees" (what in the he%^?) "you know what's in her throat" (I didn't listen to any more words, I immediately changed to 88.9 weaa the soothing Jazz station I was previously listening to) I was too through. If you know me, you know my patience is thin. I give second chances but I'm done with thirds. What in the world is T-pain talking about? I know what he's talking about but I feel like there is a lack of mainstream creativity and a need to sell records.

That's an interesting complex. It's just like any other job. There are things you don't like but you still do them because morals don't always equal food. I personally feel a certain way about selling fluff records that center on sex or violence. Rihanna's "Rude Boy" has hit #1. which is all well and good because Rihanna deserves it but the song is all fluff and little substance. She spends 4 minutes, give or take, dutty winning and checking pants of male models. We're not going to get into her performing rude boy at the Kids Choice Awards.

I've seen a few seconds of Ciara's new video "Ride It" and I was somewhat dissapointed. I feel like Ciara sold out. Is Ciara the most talented singer to ever grace our air ways? Hardly. But Ciara had a charisma, was attractive, and could dance Beyonce, Rihanna, and any other female singer with more talent in their pinkie finders than Ciara does in her whole body, under the table. She was one of my favorite singers because she used her dance moves to make up for mediocre vocals and never overly sexy. To see her in a barely there bathing suite type thingy talking about how good she rides. I guess Ciara, I guess.

In all actuality, I feel sorry for people in the industry. Do I feel sorry for the really successful ones? Not really, because once you sell a lot of records you can do whatever you want. But I feel sorry for less successful artists because they are at the mercy of their record label. They must do what they need to in order to sell records. Many artists work for years to make their record labels millions only to end up with nothing. It has to suck to have little creative control. We know about the rumors of Beyonce being a puppet for her father.

I just feel like this selling sex thing is very disheartening. We are not sold quality music, we are sold records with little substance.
