The Fame Game

For the last few days, the blogosphere has been a buzz with reports of Lawrence Fishbourne's 19 year old aughter, Montana, will be releasing a sex tape because she wants Kim Kardashian's fame:
“I’ve watched how successful Kim Kardashian became and I think a lot of it was due to the release of her sex tape.” ~Montana.

I can only imagine how Lawrence feels about this. His daughter is not looking to put in the work required having a long term career, but she wants the quick fix that has garnered Kim Kardashian fame and few millions. That's the society we live in. No longer are stars perfect people that actually have talent, they're messy people that don't do much except be messy. Look at the cast of the Jersey Shore. They make $10,000 an episode and all they do is party, drink, hook up, and do other irrelevant things. To make matters worse, Snookie, The Situation, and Pauly D also make hundreds of thousands with other appearances. All this for doing nothing.

To be honest, I can understand while people want to be involved in the fame game. You see people with no talent making thousands of dollars to do nothing, while you're working a job that you can't stand to barely make ends meet. That is the culture we live in. Washed up celebs look to reality TV for their comeback and wanna be stars look to reality TV for quick money. Why not?

Hard work is really being devalued. Everyone wants a quick fix to fame and fortune and if that can be found by singing badly on American Idol, why not? I believe that hardwork will never go out of style. Although people like Kim Kardashian are famous for doing nothing, their 15 minutes will really be 15 minutes. Very soon, there will be another socialite with a wild family and a nice body to take her place. Reality stars are disposable because they come a dime a dozen. I respect people like Beyonce, who actually worked for 10+ years very hard before she made it and still continues to work hard. Beyonce has made herself irreplaceable in the music industry and there will never be another Beyonce. It's that plain and simple.

How can reality stars make themselves last? Actually have talent and another agenda. Lauren Conrad is successful in the fashion industry and as an author because she didn't make The Hills her idea career. Conrad is well known for walking away before the show ended. If you're a reality star, create a plan and figure out how to keep eating when the camera stops rolling.
