Celebrate You: Nostalgia

On Friday, I heard this song that said "get in my car and ride away. Let's take a ride for old times sake." The melody was smooth and effortless. Today I was able to identify the song as "We Gone Ride" by Najee and Eric Benet. The song gave me a sense of nostalgia.

Remember the things you used to do before life got in the way. Before you had children, bills, marriage, job, responsibilities, etc. When you way was paid for and all you had to do was play and everything would be fine. For some of you I'm talking about childhood for others, I'm talking about college. Let's go back in the day and do something you used to do. Did you and your boo just hang all night but now you have children, so hanging now is watching Sesame on Ice? or you used to blow money on clothes every check but now everything goes to bills? Have you not shopped in a while?
Note: I'm not saying be irresponsible, I'm saying have fun.

Things to do:

1. Shop: save some money and just shop. Buy yourself the things you want just because. Call up some girlfriends and spend the day at the mall.

2. Take a drive: remember when driving was fun. Just you and the open road. Now taking a drive is more like a chore. On a slow Sunday, hop in the car and drive on a scenic stretch of road. Don't worry about where you're going, just go.

3. hang out: before you had responsibilities, you could just hang out for the sake of hanging out. Call some friends and hang out. Don't plan anything, just hang out.

4. Go on a date with your boo: has it been a minute since you and your boo have had quality time? Get a babysitter and go out with your boo. Pretend you're not married with kids.

5. love marathons: I'm not talking about a TV show. I'm talking about making love. Before you had kids, sex was in abundance. Now, having sex is a chore. You have to schedule it around kids, work, and responsibilities. On your date night, sneak away to a motel and have a love marathon.

6. Go outside and Play: those were the days. Summers filled with play marathons from sun up to sun down, just playing. Now you're lucky if you get a few minutes to do what you need to do. One day, just go out and play. It doesn't matter what you do, just go out and play.

7. Do nothing: remember the days when there was no one calling you to do this or that. When your days were open to be filled with whatever you wanted. Pick a day and do nothing. Maybe you want to sleep in or just hang around the house.
