The New American Dream

America is a country that is built on the possibility of prosperity and freedom. We are a country of immigrants, who came and continue to come over in boat loads for a piece of the American Dream. Remember when that dream was to work hard, get an education, get married, have a family, make good money, have a house with a white fence and 2.5 kids. Now the dream is to get by doing the bare minimum, graduate high school, get famous on a reality show, make millions off of being messy. Kim Kardashian is the epitome of this dream.

A couple months ago, Laurence Fishburne's 19 year old daughter, Montan, wanted to emulate Kim's rise to fame with her own sex tape. The result? A 30 day stint in a mental facility. I don't know if she's in a mental facility but she went to seek help for anger issues and to see if she has a mental disorder. Enough said. Who is Kim Kardashian? Is she a singer? No. Is she a dancer? not likely. Is she an actress? no. Model? I guess. Not to take anything away from Kim and what she's accomplished in the last three years but she is famous from a sex tape.

Kim and Ray-J, Brandy's Brother, dated and made a sex tape and some how it was released. How the tape was released is unknown but both stars benefited off of its release. Ray-J makes over a million dollars from partying alone and has had two VH1 reality shows. Kim makes a lot of money from her reality show, tweeting (10,000 per tweet), modeling, products, and endorsement deals. Her net worth is an estimated $12 million dollars.

Is this the new american dream? Gone are the images of people who work hard to obtain the things they get and in their place are images of people who make millions to do nothing, and have no real career path. To be honest, who wants to work hard when we have people like the "Jersey Shore" kids making $10,000 an episode, while the average American barely gets by on their salary. The bible states in Proverbs 12:11, "He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment." I am by no means bashing reality shows but don't make this way of life a career path because the careers of reality stars are short.
