Artist Profile: MF Doom

If you only know one thing about MF Doom it is that he is the king of underground hip hop. Although he is not widely known, Doom is often regarded as one of the best rappers in the game. Metal Face Doom was born Daniel Dumile in NYC. At 17, he saw his dream as a rapper first realized when he, hsi brother DJ Subroc and Onyx the birthstone kid were signed to Elektra records and had two successful videos on YO! MTV Raps and Rap Basement.

As the saying goes, what comes up must go down. In 1993, Doom saw his dream fade as his brother was killed while crossing a highway and the group lost their Elektra deal. With things looking bleak, Doom wandered around NYC until he moved to Atlanta and realized his underground hip hop status.

Doom, born Daniel Dumile, first became known in the rap world after his group KMD was signed to Elektra records in 1988. KMD, which included his younger brother, DJ Subroc and Onyx the Birthstone kid had early success after their singles "Peach Fuzz" and "Who Me?" became staples on Yo MTV Raps and Rap City. The young MC's had money and fame but everything soon changed.

MF Doom picked himself up and began performing and touring the underground circuit. He has also appeared on numerous collaboration albums and produced for Ghost Face Killer.
Doom is currently touring Europe and his latest album Born like This is available anywhere music is sold.
