Janitors Make More Than Teachers?

GIFSoup
There's not much to this post except my confusion. During last nights GOP debate, Newt Gingrich, which I just spelled gang-rich, said that janitors make too much money. They make $80,000, plus overtime, opposed to teachers who make $45,000 a year. Okay. Not to bash janitors but there is something wrong when the person moping the floor makes more than the person standing in front of the classroom shaping the mind of tomorrows leaders.

I don't care about what Gingrich was saying because it was kind of dumb and the chances of him being president are slim. Here is the quote for people who want to be offended and confused:

"New York City pays their janitors an absurd amount of money because of the union," Gingrich said. "You could take one janitor and hire 30-some kids to work in the school for the price of one janitor, and those 30 kids would be a lot less likely to drop out. They would actually have money in their pocket. They'd learn to show up for work. They could do light janitorial duty. They could work in the cafeteria. They could work in the front office. They could work in the library."
Newt Gingrich should be quiet. I get it that he wants poor people to work but I know people making less than $20,000 a year who have better work ethics than people making $200,000 a year. I hate when rich people act like "If I can make $20,000 a month, I don't know why everyone else can't." It's not that simple and Newt and Mitt need to be quiet. Not everyone can get out there and mop floors because opportunities may be limited. There are people who have been looking for work for years and would love to make $20,000 a year pushing a mop. Newt and Mitt are out of touch and should talk about job creation not unemployment, something they clearly know nothing about.
